Professor Santos dedicates part of his research to understand mechanisms involved in periodontal disease by using molecular biology techniques such as gene expression, protein detection and quantification as well as enzymatic activity assays in clinical and animal studies. Santos also develops clinical research aiming at the management of pain control after lower third molar removal in double-blind, crossover and randomized clinical trials to test the efficacy of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and local anesthetics.
