Information Skills for Nursing Students

August 2010 | 112 pages | Learning Matters
It is essential for nursing students to access current and reliable information to succeed in academic assignments and nursing practice, yet there are increasingly diverse information sources available, which can raise questions about the authenticity and reliability of information provided. This book presents a practical and clear guide to mastering information skills. It shows the reader how to effectively plan and implement a search for information and make judgements on the quality of the sources found. It also gives strategies for storage and retrieval of information, helping nurses to maximise the time they have available for keeping up to date.

"This book is an excellent and valuable resource for all nursing students, especially first year students. I will definitely recommend this book to all students, campus librarians and colleagues. Congratulations and thank you for an illuminating read and resource." Lecturer, University of Chester

This book is excellent for new students entering stage 1.

I have done a very silly thing and sent the book back to you because I thought it was a little elementary for my students, who are trained nurses but most of whom completed a diploma course. Now, post registration they are undertaking degree level modules. However, having spoken to colleagues and looked at other publications I realise I have made an error! It is entirely the right level for them, easy and straightforward to understand . I have therefore re-ordered tonight and will be recommending that they buy it to support their assignment prep. I hope you will accept a re-order.

Especially useful for first year students. I've recommended this book as part of a level 4 study skills module for nursing students. I've also used it with students who are working to evidence their Information and IT skills as part of their transferable graduate skills portfolio.
