An essential tool for researchers who wish to be widely versed in key methods and approaches, from experiments to ethnography. The content is clear, practical, and concise, orienting beginning readers to important themes and issues and directing advanced readers to additional, in-depth resources. I highly recommend it.
Excellent support for developing an understanding of the theories of learning
This textbook has admirable breadth and could provide a point of reference on a range of topics for students to explore comparisons with treatments in other texts. The best of the chapters such as Waring's on Grounded Theory and Hammersley's on Research Ethics offer a concise and lucid overview of their subject. Useful features include the brief and often challenging "questions for further investigation". The breadth of coverage means that more detailed texts will be needed for those seeking guidance on project design and research practice, but it has undoubted potential for providing introductory support on unfamiliar subjects.
This valuable book offers an insightful and systematic advice on the key aspects of methodologies and methods of data collection in educational research. It is essential for any student or a practitioner undertaking educational research as part of their studies or practice.
A very well-written guide to research. Informative and insightful chapters. In particular the chapter on focus groups and group interviews is especially helpful as this is an area which is often misunderstood.
An excellent guide for degree level students. This book provides a comprehensive overview of a wide range of methods. Each section is brilliantly explained allowing students to make an informed choice of suitable methods to employ in their research. In addition, a clearly written chapter on theoretical positions gives students a grounding in which to embed their research.
This publication provides a good introduction for research methodologies. Provides a broad range of information which can be further explored in other publications/key text.
This is a wide-ranging text covering most if not all of the aspects of social research you are likely to teach at both undergraduate and Master's level in a both accessible but complex enough fashion to make it a very useful addition to any list of resources at both levels.
This book provides an excellent overview of research methods relevant to educational research and each chapter has been written by an expert in the field. The book covers a wide range of research methods and includes both qualitative and quantitative approaches, as a result it is a valuable resource for those entering this area.
A really good overview into research methods and methodologies, which can be applied to subjects other than education.
