A Critique of Emotional Behavioural Mental Health and Its Relationship to CBT

"The size of this book hides its comprehensive coverage of CB theory/practice. It certainly holds your hand through the topic but at a level that is appropriate for the students. Whilst not a beginners’ guide, this text certainly covers all the basics and allows a student ‘to hit the ground running’. I recommend this book to all and it definitely will form the basis of my teaching." -

Tony Barlow, Birmingham City University

"This book is a state of the art text on the application of CBT to Mental Health Care. It will have lasting value for novice and trained CBT practitoners who wish to work with clients with psychological disorders. A gem of a book." -

Professor Windy Dryden

"Amongst the plethora of recent introduction to CBT books, there is nothing like this gem. The authors have produced a fresh, contemporary, wide-ranging synthesis which stretches the boundaries of CBT - is there any other CBT book which has sections on marginalised groups, discussion of values and alternative research methodologies?" -

James Bennett-Levy, University of Sydney and Southern Cross University

"Reflecting the burgeoning field of CBT this ambitious book sets CBT in its political and social context, as well as embracing new topics and populations. Remarkably, the breadth of the text does not compromise its accessibility - it is recommended to both those who are new to CBT and to the experienced." -

Amanda Cole, Consultant Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist

An excellent text covering many aspects of CBT practice. The chapters on 'contextual issues and challenges' were particularly illuminating and informative.

The text would support the experienced practitioner as well as students.

Excellent text book. Practical guide for students although I feel this is more suitable/appropriate for Post registration. Use of incorporated case studies are helpful. Comprehensive covering a variety of mental health disorders and the application of CBT.

The book covers a wide range of mental health conditions and the application of CBT for these. The chapters on assessment and formulation are thorough and remain a valuable resource for trainee's in CBT to use. However, I think the book could generally benefit from a revised edition owing to developments in CBT practice in recent years.

This book has been recommended as a core read within one of the 3rd year Psychological Therapies module. This assists in students identifying the links between CBT and Cognitive behavioural appoaches as used within OT practice

This was an easy read. Fantastic use of case studies and particular interest in the section on CBT within Child and Adolescents. I liked the use of metaphors. I will add this to a recommended reading list.

An excellent introductory text outlining the principles underpinning the use of CBT with common mental health problems. A must for any health professional developing their use of these techniques.

This text will be a welcome addition to the recommended reading list for our second year Mental Health Nursing Students.
The case scenarios and detail within sessions is particularly helpful.
