Grounded in practical examples from classroom practice, an excellent guide to teaching literacy.
This continues to be one of core texts for Primary and Early Years PGCE English. It draws on research with useful reflective activities for students to consider.
My colleague Jenny MOsley co-teaches on this module. I was sent two copies so gave one to her. During 2009-10 we have found the Browne to be a useful complement to our Y1 CLL and English key text (Bradford, H. (2009) Communication, Language and Literacy in the Early Years Foundation Stage. London: Routledge) and our Y3 CLL and English key text (Riley, J. (2006) Language and Literacy 3-7. London: Sage.

Some nice material in this, and I will order library copies and add to supplemental reading list. Particularly good to have two chapters on writing. However, not a replacement for essential reading - another Sage book (Whitehead)
