Drawing together the best of text, video and interactive material for the complete A&P learning resource for nurses.
Effective, holistic nursing is impossible without a firm grasp of how the human body functions, but knowledge of the scientific theory on its own is not enough. Using the person-centred practice framework as a guiding principle, this book brings anatomy and physiology to life combining the best of print and online learning into one integrated package.
Key features:
- Connects theory with nursing practice exploring the science from the perspective of a fictional family
- Supported by a rich array of video material including interactive figures, animations and mini-tutorials – perfect for visual learners
- Full of engaging activities designed to complement self-directed learning
- Written with the needs of nurses firmly in mind, focusing on the essential information
- Supported by a SAGE Edge website containing complete access to videos, animations, student revision material, action plans, downloadable figures, over 800 flashcards, and a bank of 170 online multiple choice questions for assessment use.

I absolutely recommend this book! There’s a lot of colourful diagrams and tables, which I find amazing because it helps me visualise things and that’s a great way to revise, if you can visualise and see something, rather than just reading it, it’s going to help you massively.

‘The inclusion of the fictional family makes the rather dry subject of anatomy and physiology come alive. As this is not hospital but patient based, it also gives the book a health focus which is often missing. The interactive nature of the book and the four stages of learning are also features that I particularly like - it recognises the different ways in which students now learn.’
The book is extremely well illustrated in colour throughout and contains a wealth of diagrams, tables and learning activities. The authors have included a fictional family in this resource and have effectively integrated each individual throughout the text, which very much brings the learning to life and provides that vital link between anatomy and physiology and nursing practice.
I would highly recommend this high-quality resource to all students pursuing a career in nursing, as it will significantly contribute to their overall learning experience.
‘Nursing students will benefit enormously from the clear explanations, informative videos, colourful diagrams and simple and easy to remember definitions of key concepts.’
‘A well-presented and clear book that should enable student nurses at all levels to establish a sound understanding of A&P related to clinical practice.’
‘The use of patient case studies and links to practice is something that has been less clearly focused upon in other A&P textbooks and will be extremely helpful in making the concepts within A&P 'real' for student nurses.’
‘A clear strength of this book is how it situates anatomy and physiology within a philosophical framework of nursing care (namely the Person-Centred Practice Framework of McCormack and McCance, 2016). Anatomy and physiology are often taught separately from the psycho-social aspects of care. This can make it difficult for students to apply and integrate their knowledge of human anatomy to patient care. The philosophical framework developed by the authors of this book will go a long way towards developing truly holistic nursing care. Students will develop a clear understanding of how human anatomy and physiology underpin safe and effective nursing care and clinical decision-making.’
This is great to use in the anatomy unit of Cache - health and social care level 3 year 2
This has been added to the students reading list, we are also using some of the diagrams for practice exams
An excellent resource where the key topics are delivered in a clear and comprehensive manner. Access to H E. Students have found this very useful to develop their understanding of Anatomy and Physiology
The team in consultation with our learners chose this as our preferred textbook to support their anatomy and physiology study. They particularly enjoy its relevance to health care practice and the way its information relates clearly to health, illness and disease. It has been the most popular and accessible textbook we have used in science for some time. Highly recommended. Additionally several learners have purchased the associated colouring book to aid their memory prior to end tests and exams. A really useful pair.
