Andrei A. Lux is a Lecturer in Leadership at the School of Business and Law, Edith Cowan University.
I want to start by saying I’ve never used a textbook when teaching leadership, but that is changing now. What struck me from Lux’s work is that it is comprehensive and accessible. I don’t need to assign two articles – one explaining the theory and one critiquing it – because Lux has that for each theory in his book. Even explaining “commercially motivated pseudoscience”.
I don’t have to trawl through the internet to find activities to develop learner’s leadership skills, Lux has them all in links and QR codes ready to go. The conversational style of the writing hooks you in where you feel like you are having a conversation with Lux about the intricacies of leadership, and you are taken on a journey through research and practice, and where you end up is a better leader and more knowledgeable than any other text I’ve read on the market.
the book explores the fundamentals of leadership i.e. definitions, traits etc in a variety of contexts ideal for beginners (Level 4) and advanced (Level 7). The book is accompanied with useful teaching materials (slides and lecturer's notes) and thought-inducing exercises.
