Revised and updated for a third edition, Green and Thorogood’s excellent textbook provides a solid grounding for health professionals in the theory and practice of qualitative research methods. This new edition, with an increased focus on data management and analysis, will remain the core qualitative methods textbook for our Master in Public Health Programme.
An excellent research book which takes the student through the basics of qualitative methods of research which for healthcare is a required discipline. Easy to follow and sets out a logical, sequenced path which is supported by good, relevant examples. Ideal for qualified healthcare professionals and student alike.
Essential reading which is concise, highlighting cases and examples of required information for any healthcare professional. The end of chapter summaries are particularly useful, providing a good, easy revision tool which reinforces the knowledge from each chapter as an aid memoir. From sociological perspectives to professional regulation, all salient aspects are thoroughly covered in an easy to read/understand text. Excellent for healthcare students and practitioners alike.
This is an excellent text which covers a range of approaches and methods in a succinct and practical way. Excellent text for students to use when planning, executing and writing up health-related qualitative research projects.
Some good research examples included here. Very helpful for researchers in the health industry.
This book would be recommended to students taking undergraduate and postgraduate research design and dissertation modules. Students undertaking health research PhDs would also find the content helpful introduction to their field of research. The book was not adopted for the course indicated, since this is not core content of the course. The reason for non-adopting the text is not the quality of the book, which would be recommended for students wishing to learn about qualitative methods in health research.

Comprehensive yet accessible to students. Pays attention to (research) theory while providing useful and concrete examples. Covers the whole research process including dissemination of results to various audiences. Research ethics are addressed in a practical, not just theoretical, way.
This is a very useful resource for the student wishing to further their knowledge in a range if qualitative research methodologies. The book is clearly laid out to incorporate qualitative principles; generating data; analysing data and research in practice. Each chapter is also clearly formatted to provide a critical review of each of the topic areas. Altogether this is a welcome resource for both the student and experienced researcher.
