'This is an accessible guide book about the different psychotherapy approaches and how they can be used to counsel patients. Adrian Pennington, a counselling psychologist, takes us through 12 of the most well-known and most used methods and explains exactly what they are and how to use them in practice. I liked the examples he uses for each method and also the fact that he gives the student extra reading on each approach so if you are particularly interested in an approach you have recommended texts to explore. I think it would be useful not only to mental health nurses but to all nurses as many patients will be in need of counselling at some point in their lives and it is good to be aware of all the approaches. Student nurses will also find this an interesting read as I did' -

'A most excellent and readable guide for students at any level of education and training' -
Howard Bowman, Director DC Mediation and lecturer in counselling

'This brilliant guide is exactly what it sets out to be, a simple (but clear) guide for students, clarifying theories available to use in psychotherapy and counselling' -
Carole Binysh, Counsellor MBACP (Accred), Clinical Supervisor and trainer

'A well structured and clearly laid out introduction that packs a lot of information into a small space' -
Sandra Flynn, Counsellor

Good basic book that provides sufficient information on the mainstream approaches

A good basic foundation to give a flavour of the methodology under consideration.

The book contains many of the author's personal opinions, some of which are misleading e.g. p.95 paragraph 3.

This institution provides a a set of Integrative Courses with a growing reputation especially for quality and rigor.
