Culture and Human Development

First Edition

February 2000 | 336 pages | SAGE Publications Ltd
This major new textbook by Jaan Valsiner focuses on the interface between cultural psychology and developmental psychology. Intended for students from undergraduate level upwards, the book provides a wide-ranging overview of the cultural perspective on human development, with illustrations from pre-natal development to adulthood.A key feature is the broad coverage of theoretical and methodological issues which have relevance to this truly interdisciplinary field of enquiry encompassing developmental psychology, cultural anthropology and comparative sociology.

The text is organized into five coherent parts:

Part 1: Developmental theory and methodology;

Part 2: Analysis of environments for human development

Part 3: Cultural organization of pregnancy and infancy;

This book is very useful for the learners who go the extra mile and look in greater depth at their subject for the very high marks, so I have listed it as supplemental

This is such a well written and informative book providing a wealth of information, leads to other interesting materials and most of all written academically but accessibly too. I even found myself picking it up to read in place of a novel in the evening. I have recommended to others studying Anthropology as it will be a valuable resource. Is a particularly interesting book in regards to Early Year's.
