Planning for Language and Literacy

'In the third edition of this book, Browne provides a fully updated guide to language and literacy in the early years, taking into account current research, policy and practice. Chapters cover a wide range of topics such as reading, writing and spelling as well as chapters on special educational needs, bilingual learners and assessment. The book is intended for early years and primary teachers and practitioners in training and will provide them with an easy to read, informative and comprehensive guide to how children acquire these skills' -
Early Years Educator

'I would thoroughly recommend this as a book which enables and empowers at many levels of experience. Every staff room should have a copy' - English Four to Eleven

'While the book is particularly useful for student teachers and NQTs, the reflective activities in each section, in particular, could inform teaching practice for all those seeking to develop language and literacy skills in their classroom - Literacy Time PLUS

This book is a useful resource for student teachers as it has quite a good layout in terms of topics covered. Also available are additional resources for the chapters on the SAGE website. Have found examples and case studies quite useful.

This book has been extremely beneficial in helping to develop communication modules on the Early Years degree. It is set out well and easy to read, I will definitely be recommending it to my students to read in order to support them with their work and helping them to develop their knowledge further.

A very useful text for students which introduces them to the development of language and literacy in the early years and Key Stage 1. I am sure that the students will particularly find the sections on planning and resources very useful.

Ann Browne's 3rd edition is a comprehensive guide to language and literacy in a primary classroom. She has included everything to do with literacy from organising a Book Week to gifted and talented support. This is a great almanac for classroom teachers.

The book is important issue of classic texts on the language acquisition, espesially teaching and learning English in the early years. The new edition is suitable for my students, because of new curriculum guidance for the Early Years Foundation Stage and the new Primary Framework in England as well.
On my point of view the design \ outline\ of the chapters is exellent with little plan at the begining and summary, reflective activities and suggestions for further reading at the end, examples of good practice.
My suggestion: to outline and analize the connection between language acquisition and literary ( literature for children) texts reception.
