“The text addresses important current issues and provides a “how to” guide for students to evaluate and translate research findings into practice. This is a very crucial, fundamentally important work that discusses the relevance and steps to making EBP (evidence-based practice) a reality for helping professionals. The language is easy to read and the approach is practical, organized, and almost intuitive approach to the content. Students will find the book easy to read compared to the traditional research textbooks.
“The greatest strength in the proposed text is the text takes the use of evidence-based practice in social work to the next level, namely, identifying the components and areas that need to be focused on. I believe there is a need for a text that walks people through the various stages of implementing evidence based practice, providing the rational and examples of how to accomplish the implementation, and sustainability of using evidence-based practice. All too often, students leave “the need for research” behind once they have completed the course.
“The text enables students to understand how to become an evidence-based practitioner – this is an important part of training students as practitioners.”
This is one of the best books on EBP I have read and I would recommend this for social work students in their final year of undergraduate studies and Postgraduate students.
Research methods for evidence-based practice is an eminently practical guide for students of social administration and social work. It enables them to identify and use the best available research, and provides them with the skills to evaluate their work and that of their agency. The chapters on outcome measures and research designs are sure to be particularly useful for novice practitioners.
This is a really helpful text that sets evidence based practice in context and guides the student towrad becomming an evidence based practitioner rather then simply discuss evidence based pratice.
My only critism of the book is the cost as I had hoped to be able to purcahse copies to distribute to Newly Qualified Social Workers in another area of my work but it was too expensive. It would have been a very useful book for this group of SWs to give them in their move from students to becoming registered social workers.
I teach undergraduates. I will consider for foundation graduate students.
In the CJ system, a repeated approach of gathering information and analyzing data is essential in gaining a better understanding of the social dynamics within a particular area of a city, town, or rural community, to determine where to use resources in order to heighten public safety. This particular text helps the CJ student to better understand this process. The previously used textbook failed to provide this guidance, although the students understood research methods, in general.
