Norman K. Denzin’s newest text, Interpretive Autoethnography, intricately blends the best of Interpretive Biography (1989) and Interpretive Interactionism (2001). It is a must read for advanced, seriously committed narrative, autoethnographic researchers and writers. Denzin succeeds at making autoethnographic terminology accessible. Crisp accounts illustrate the abundance of terms and characteristics. Writers now have a means to write with new and varied eyes elevating participants’ voices.
This is a groundbreaking and visionary text for anyone interested in autoethnography, personal experience, and life story research.
Denzin's Interpretive Autoethnography provides a deeply comprehensive and deftly concise analysis of autoethnographic methods, theories, and trends. He places autoethnography where it belongs, grounded in theory and rigorous analysis.
Good text for reference but others are more contemporary.
More Useful for msc and PhD students than Bsc students
Really useful as introductory text for beginning doctoral students - both to autoethnography and to a distinct way of thinking about social science research
Excellent analysis and description of the subject
Brilliant book- it is not only well written but also captures the importance of auto-ethnography.
Love this book looking for Fall 2015
A very useful, little text that is easy to read and ideal for students and novice researchers embarking on this method of qualitative enquiry.
Although the book was very insightful, the content was too specialist. It would be ideal for PhD students or researchers doing this particular type of study.
A useful introduction for a little used methodology.
Will be an invaluable resource for any student wishing to adopt an autoethnographic approach in studying city life
An excellent text. I have found this very useful and will definitely be using it to inform my teaching content.
This is a very useful book for those interested in developing their understanding of the many aspects of qualitative research. Even if autoethnography is not adopted, the reader will gain from a deeper understanding of where they might be positioned in their research.
This is an inspiring small text. Up-to-date, clearly written and bristling with more than enough signposted nuggets to tempt students and professionals to seriously consider an autoethnographic research option.
This book is useful for postgraduate students who wish to explore novel methods in their research.
This is a very easy book to read. Denzin's style isvery engaging and takes the reader with him, using a range of examples and clear definitions to support learning.
Definitely on my list of highly recommended approaches to research. Hardlyt considered in counselling psychology, this book is an absolute must for those wanting to explore and research the meaning they assign to their own experiences. It is a wonderful text, well written, easy to understand and leaves you wanting to go ahead and start auto-ethnogrpahic research!
A concise but at the same time deep introduction to interpretive autoethnography, it provides a wide coverage that cross-disciplinary boundaries. This is undoubtedly a text for advanced students.
