Good pertinent updated version of an old classic.

A useful introduction to the study of early childhood. The book makes clear links between observation and reflective practice which will help students to develop their confidence as professional practitioners. The chapter about research, policy and practice is particularly interesting and will encourage students to engage with policy makers through their own research.

This is great book for those who are interested in the foundations of early childhood. It can be an essential textbook for students and tutors in the field and it is recommended for university courses. It introduces all the most important aspects of early years care and education, and will help you develop the key skills needed to study at degree level. Importantly, it goes beyond theory and puts theoretical aspects and principles of early childhood into practice through practical examples.

Builds on learners existing knowledge of early childhood
A comprehensive and up to date book which delves into the challenges of contemporary Early Education. Good links to theory throughout and appropriate case study s to further support thinking which allows the reader to employ much reflection on current issues regarding childhood.
A well-written and engaging book which is easy to 'dip in and out of' and find something new and thought provoking each time. I really like the balance between theoretical and practical within the book. There are some great ideas for activities which I intend to use within the classroom with Level 3 Early Years students next year to provoke discussion and reflection.
