A Very Short Fairly Interesting and Reasonably Cheap Book About Studying Leadership

Second Edition

© 2011 | 208 pages | SAGE Publications Ltd

This bestselling pocket guide provides students with alternative ways of looking at leadership beyond prescriptive 'how to' approaches. It shows how leadership is a relational activity and encourages students to think about leadership in fresh and innovative ways. The first edition became a favorite among students for the pithy and engaging way in which it guided them through the cacophony of competing perspectives and models. The Second Edition includes expanded discussion of hot topics like followership, gender, ethics, authenticity, and leadership and the arts, set against the backdrop of the global financial crisis. In showing students how to critically appraise and work with leadership theories, this book will not just make readers into better students of leadership, but into better leaders too.

Chapter 1: Introduction: Why Studying Leadership Matters

Chapter 2: Leader-Centered Perspectives on Leadership

Chapter 3: Follower-Centered Perspectives on Leadership

Chapter 4: Cultural Perspectives on Leadership

Chapter 5: Critical and Distributed Perspectives on Leadership

Chapter 6: Leadership with a Higher Purpose

Chapter 7: Conclusion: Take Your Lead

The title is only partially correct - this book is "extremely" interesting rather than "fairly" interesting and has managed to pack more wisdom into 150 pages than almost any other leadership book available. The authors have done all students of leadership a great service with this little gem
