Geoffrey Baym Temple University, USA, University of North Carolina at Greensboro, USA

Geoffrey Baym has an extensive background in broadcast journalism and will chair the Electronic Media News and Documentary Concentration. Geoffrey grew up in Illinois and received a Bachelor's degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. After his undergraduate education, he followed Horace Greeley's advice and moved west, working for several years as a television news writer and producer at KSL-TV, Salt Lake City, Utah. In addition to his time in the television news business, he has experience in newspaper, radio, and magazine journalism. He left the professional world to pursue a graduate education in media studies at the University of Utah and received his PhD in May of 2001. Before coming to UNC Greensboro, he taught courses on media production, history, theory, and criticism at Wake Forest University. His research interests lie in the changing standards and styles of television news work and American political discourse. He has published articles of television criticism in the Western Journal of Communication and the Journal of Communication Inquiry.
