Jose Monfred C. Sy University of the Philippines Diliman, Philippines

Jose Monfred C. Sy is an assistant professor of Philippine studies in the Department of Filipino and Philippine Literature, University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman. He received his master of arts (Philippine studies) and bachelor of arts (comparative literature), summa cum laude, degrees from the same university. He is currently the project leader of the Program on Alternative Development of the UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies. His research appear in Ecologies in Southeast Asian Literatures: Histories, Myths and Societies (Vernon, 2019), Plants in Children’s and Young Adult Literature (Routledge, 2021) and Environment, Media, and Popular Culture in Southeast Asia (Springer, 2022). He is interested in social movements, political ecology, children’s culture, and revolutionary literature. He also writes and translates books for children. He is a member of the Congress of Teachers/Educators for Nationalism and Democracy (CONTEND) and the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT).
