Keith J. Petrie is a professor of health psychology at Auckland University Medical School. He worked as a clinical psychologist in medical settings before taking up a faculty position at Auckland University Medical School. His primary research focus involves showing how patients’ perceptions about their illness and treatment influence coping and recovery. His research group also does work on adherence to treatment, psychological influences on symptom reporting, as well as the placebo and nocebo responses. His work in this area has been published in major international medical and psychology journals, and he has received a number of local and international awards for his research.
