Open Doors Dementia Service

The Open Doors Dementia Service (based in Salford, UK) is a friendship and support network for people living with dementia, which provides post-diagnostic education and support. Founded in 2010, Open Doors is funded by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and employs several people living with dementia to facilitate its activities, including numerous support groups, dementia cafés, a book club, and dining group. Open Doors members have also been involved in consultations around service design and delivery, as well as actively involved in dementia research. Managed by Cathy Riley, Open Doors members are co-investigators and co-researchers on the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)/National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) “Neighborhoods and Dementia: a mixed methods study.”
