
Shubhashis Gangopadhyay India Development Foundation (IDF), India
Shubhashis Gangopadhyay is currently the Research Director of India Development Foundation, Director of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Shiv Nadar University, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He obtained his PhD in Economics from Cornell University, USA, in 1983 and joined the Indian Statistical Institute where he became a Professor in 1991. In 2003, he became the founder-Director of India Development Foundation, an independent research institution. He was awarded a doctorate (honoris causa) by the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, in October 2006. In 2008, the year of the global financial crisis, he was appointed Advisor to the Finance Minister, Government of India. He is the Chief Editor of the Journal of Emerging Market Finance and has been on the editorial boards of Journal of Financial Stability and Review of Development Economics. He is a member of the Board of the Centre for Analytical Finance (Indian School of Business, Hyderabad) and International Development Enterprise India. He has been a member of the Bankruptcy Task Force of the Initiative for Policy Dialogue (IPD), Columbia University; the International Advisory Board of the Centre for Law and Economics of Financial Markets (Copenhagen Business School); the South Asia Chief Economist’s Advisory Council of the World Bank; and the board of Industrial Reconstruction Bank of India. Currently, he is also an advisor to the Competition Commission of India. He is also the founder-President of the Society for the Promotion of Game Theory and Its Applications. He has published widely in international journals and has a number of books to his credit on economics and finance.
