Zoë Veal University of West England, UK
Zoë Veal is a senior lecturer in children’s and young people’s nursing at the University of the West of England, Bristol and has been a registered children’s nurse since 1995. Her clinical background has predominately focused on surgical specialities, having worked in both short stay and long stay surgical units, cardiology and cardiac surgery (Bristol Royal Hospital for Children), burns and reconstructive surgery and neurology and neurosurgery (Frenchay Hospital, Bristol). In her current role, Zoë teaches and facilitates student learning from foundation year through to master’s level in both theory and practice modules (clinical skills) and has a particular interest in the history of nursing and the use of fiction in nurse education. Zoë has undertaken a number of roles within the university including programme leadership, and she was professional lead for children and young people’s nursing at UWE Bristol during the global pandemic. She is currently the admissions tutor for the undergraduate children and young people’s nursing degree programme and is also a member of the CYP Nurse Academic Network. Alongside her nursing degree and professional registration as a children’s nurse, Zoë also holds degrees in literature and teaching, and is currently working towards a professional doctorate in education (EdD).
