  • 2016: Nico Calavita, recently retired after teaching for 30 years in the graduate program in city planning at San Diego State University, received the Marilyn Gittell Urban Affairs Association Activist Scholar Award, which is co-sponsored by SAGE
  • 2016: Stephanie Evergreen, author of Presenting Data Effectively and our newly published Effective Data Visualization, received the American Evaluation Association’s Marcia Guttentag Promising New Evaluator Award
  • 2016: Christopher Fox, associate editor for Therapeutic Advances in Vaccines, received the Washington Global Health Alliance’s Rising Leader Award

  • 2014: Clare Fitzgerald and Mary-Clare Hano, co-authors (with Branda Nowell and Toddi Steelman) the paper titled “Stories from the Fire: An Initial Look at Institutional Responses to Operationally Engaged Residents on Wildfires of the Western United States,” awarded the debut best doctoral paper award at the Public Administration Committee annual conference

Travel grants 

As the education and research landscapes rapidly evolve, it is paramount that we work closely with our partners, understanding and responding to their needs. Conferences provide an ideal environment for open discussion between both publishers and our scholarly community in order to ensure that we work together on this shared goal of supporting education and dissemination. SAGE offers the following travel grants to support this outreach:

  • ALA: United for Libraries/SAGE Academic Friend Conference Grants sponsors two friends of the library to attend the ALA Annual Conference
  • ALPSP travel grant: Sponsorship of a UK librarian to attend the ALPSP International annual conference
  • APSA: SAGE/CQ Press sponsorship for a group of American Political Science Association (APSA) members to attend the APSA Teaching and Learning Conference
  • ASA: The SAGE Teaching Innovations & Professional Development Awards sponsors a group of graduate students and pre-tenure faculty to attend the annual American Sociological Association pre-conference workshop
  • Charleston: Sponsorship for a US librarian to attend the annual Charleston Conference
  • CSWE: The SAGE/CSWE Award for Innovative Teaching in Social Work Education sponsors two US social work teachers/teams to attend the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) conference
  • ECER: Sponsorship of UK early career researchers to attend the European Educational Research Association annual conference
  • IFLA: Sponsorship for a group of UK librarians/information professionals to attend the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) World Library and Information Congress
  • UKSG: Sponsorship for UK students and early career researchers to attend the annual UKSG library conference
