"This volume accomplishes a great deal, combing theory and practice, abstract concepts and realistic, workable suggestions. Many of the studies and stories are fascinating as well as valuable research paradigms" —CONTEMPORARY PSYCHOLOGY
The topic of feminist research has frequently been neglected in standard research methods books. The purpose of this Primer is to invite students to explore the range of feminist perspectives, including feminist empiricist, feminist standpoint, and postmodern perspectives in order to bridge the divide between theory and research methods. This text provides a unique "hands-on" approach to research by providing exercises and "behind the scenes" glimpses of feminist researchers at work. The in-depth examples cover the range of research questions that feminists engage with, including issues of gender inequality, violence against women, body image issues, and the discrimination of "other/ed" marginalized groups. The Primer is written in a clear, concise manner that offers students the opportunity to explore and practice a wide range of research, from ethnography, oral history, focus groups, and content analysis to interviewing and survey research. A full chapter is devoted to feminist approaches to mixed methods research. Feminist Research Practice: A Primer is committed to the idea that research methods are best understood utilizing a "hands-on" pedagogy. Research tips and checklists are provided along the way for the novice researcher. The many voices of feminist social researchers here provide a welcome focus on inquiry practices. They sort through more than three decades of social research as well as reflections on it. They illuminate these analyses with "tales from the field." This is a valuable text for graduate and undergraduate social science researchers.

This course, I'm teaching, ended up being only theory focused. I chose theory texts. But, in the future I hope to teach a feminist research course and I would definitely use this book for that course.
The book is essential for students undertaking doctoral research especially for those using postmodern and/or poststructuralist approach. It is though provoking and covers many aspects of the social research. Thank you.
An excellent text - it will be useful for students interested in Feminist Research, less so for others, hence 'supplemental'.
excellent content
Feminist views and approaches are well explored in this book. It offers a way of assessing women's issues from the standpoint of feminist research and practice. A true primer that examines some of the modifications to the positivist views.
I adopted this course text, and it was *fantastic*. It led my students clearly through the varieties of feminist methods, including the epistemologies underlying them. My students loved the book, and I would certainly use it again. Thank you for the review copy!
Good introduction to interaction between methodology and policy
Great comprehensive exploration of Fem. Research.
