'"Bureaucracy is the reason for the decline in school trips". A statement often quoted. But it is a myth that there is a decline in school visits... It's competent people, not paperwork, that make visits safer' - Ian Park, ex-Chairman, Outdoor Education Advisers' Panel
A sound title for students to understand the modern challenges in health and safety
A book that provides an effective overview of the issues relating to risks in the outdoors. A worthwhile read for those entering the industry or studying on an Outdoor Adventure course.
This book breaks the topic down into sections that are easy to understand for the staff and the students, but covers all of the information needed about Safety and Risk.
A great in depth book looking at the important area of risk relating to adventure and the outdoors.
Some of the text is at a level well above the BTEC syllabus, but there is still a lot that is of direct relevance to our course.
As such, copies will be put in the library and the text will be added to the recommended reading list for the relavnat modules.
This is a very comprehensive and appropriate book for the outdoor courses I oversee; linking to two core units (Health and Safety + Coaching). I am in the process of stocking 4 copies within the library, for the start of the new academic year.
An excellent introductory book that touches on all of the key themes current within outdoor education theory (with the notable exception of environmental/sustainability issues).
