“[This text] provides what is missing from most leadership texts. It is a cognitive, behavioral, and affective foundation for leadership practice that has been sorely lacking in the leadership literature.”
“I really like what I have seen so far, particularly the emphasis on emotions/feelings and the author's invitations (via self-disclosure of stories) for personal reflection—quite different from the ethos of other leadership texts I've seen...”
“…Readable, evidence-based, balanced coverage of topics, most key topics are addressed. The author has done a terrific job of identifying and summarizing a broad array of relevant research spanning several decades. Readers will have an excellent understanding of the nuances associated with the text’s topics.”
"The cases are vivid and intriguing. The case study approach is incredibly effective and increases the appeal of this book to a broader audience...The comprehensive inclusion of case studies and anecdotes makes this text unique, engaging, and interesting. The author found a way to make an important and novel contribution to the textbook world."
"[The Put it in Practice feature is] very good overall—the most useful for students looking for guidance and a distillation of what was covered…”
“I particularly liked the coverage of identity, charisma, and power. These subjects are discussed in more depth than I have found in other leadership texts.”
“I am an instructor and a political consultant, and I study leadership through theory and application. This is one of the most true-to-life leadership books that also combines theory and application. It gives students a real good perspective on what leaders think and do.”
“The author’s writing style and spot-on examples and cases bring the material to life. The author is an extremely talented writer…This text reads like a business ‘best seller’. I was thoroughly entranced by this book and couldn’t wait to read more of it. I would recommend it to students and leader/manager practitioners. The summaries of research studies are excellent and can be put to immediate practical use. This is the best book on overall leadership (text or otherwise) that I have ever read.”
excellent book, ideal for the novice nurse.
Clear, concise and has cases that can be used as a vehicle for understanding leadership complexities and concepts.
I used Effective Leadership for the first time this year. I was looking for a reader-friendly leadership text based in research, but with all the practical tools such as cases and self-assessments. I appreciated the obvious effort that went into writing this book with a clear audience (advanced undergraduates and MBAs) in mind. Is is very current and replete with not only the latest research but also with the most current events in business. I also appreciated the heavier emphasis on newer leadership research and the focus on emotions in the leadership process.
This a very comprehensive book and very well written. The case studies throughout are an excellent addition.
This a a useful text that provides an overview of the leadership skills needed to be successful in various organizations. We are considering using it in the Fall 2015 semester. Again, this is a very useful text and provides excellent information for leadership and management students.
A comprehensive, engaging and exciting book that utilizes a critical approach to understanding leadership
This book promotes some thought provoking ideas to support effective leadership within a team. I have found some useful stratergies that I have adopted and used within my team.
This book is appropriate for a Leadership capstone course, which I will be instructing next year.
Excellent book, and would be a fab choice for a MBA level course!
