"Critical Ethnography is a passionate, wise, and wonderful book – even more commanding and evocative in its second edition, which adds new research examples, emerging moments in critical autoethnographies, and perfomative writing. In Madison’s vision, doing fieldwork seeps into and stretches out the lived world that we inhabit with others, a world where our studies make a difference to do more – or less -- good for participants.
The issues of leadership are mostly researched through life stories approach, which makes this text invaluable in helping students to analyse their data using an ethnographic perspective.
I use this book as a supplemental source for my Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods course.
Good book, the critical perspective is highly relevant. The structure of the book does not quite fit the structure of our course, therefore it is only supplemental reading.
A solid introduction to Critical Ethnography, which provides a concise primer in the theoretical, methodological, ethical, and performative dimensions of field research.
This text offers a theoretical basis for understanding ethnography as a methodology. It is written in such a way as to encourage the reader to become absorbed in the theoretical underpinnings of ethnography at the same time as learning "how to do" ethnography
A key feature of this book is its accessibility for all levels of study.
Excellent book for all health professions and for all levels of research students. Contains a good variety of topics .
Too specific for the course.
Provides a comprehensive introduction to critical ethnography that is very useful to graduate students as well as to established researchers.
This is a great book for students carrying out research projects where they are keen to problematise the field they are exploring. It looks at ethnography in a broad light, and can really help studnets understand that an ethonography is not just 'living' with a community but can take many other forms. Some good practical tips make this a useful book for students.
Excellent methodological course that connects with multiple dimensions of ethnographic research: ethics, epistemology, accountability.
This is a great text for students who want to explore ethnography in more depth than a course textbook allows.
An excellent introductory text for my undergraduate students!
Text is very detailed in the process of critical ethnography. The methods are excellent and this text includes an ethical approach which is refreshing.
This is a well-written and innovative text of direct significance to M level and doctoral students interested in a critical appreciation of power and cultural 'knowledge' and ethics. A strong text to encourage students to read.
Excellent text!! Students found it very helpful, which made my job much easier. I would use this text again! Thanks!
Excellent text for undergraduate dissertation students choosing ethnographic methods for their projects
