Stanton Lull Williams

Stan Williams has taught and worked in the Champlain Valley School District (CVSD) in Vermont for over twenty years. He is currently an instructional coach for the district and spends his time supporting standards-based learning (SBL) and instruction at the high school and the four district middle schools. Besides his work as an instructional coach, Stan co-teaches a class called Think Tank, which has students examining education and learning and has kids at the heart of educational transformation.

Emily A. Rinkema

Emily Rinkema is currently an instructional coach in the Champlain Valley School District (CVSD) in Vermont, spending half of her time supporting standards-based instruction and learning at the high school and the other half supporting the middle schools in their transition to standards- based learning (SBL). She also code- signed and coteaches Think Tank, a class that puts high school students at the center of the educational transformation happening around them. Emily began teaching English and humanities at Champlain Valley Union High School twenty years ago and was inspired by the progressive philosophy of the school and community from the start. While teaming with Stan Williams in a heterogeneous tenth-grade humanities class, they became obsessed with differentiated instruction and SBL, applied for a sabbatical, and began down the path that would lead to instructional coaching. Emily is the cofounder of the Vermont Standards-Based Learning (VTSBL) Collective, a grassroots organization that brings together educators interested in improving education through SBL. She has organized, led, and participated in the annual symposium sponsored by the VTSBL Collective and has presented about SBL at schools around Vermont and at the 2018 ASCD Empower18 Conference. Emily has a master’s degree in English from the Bread Loaf School of English at Middlebury College and is still involved with the Bread Loaf Teacher Network and, along with Stan, is very active professionally on social media through @ CVULearns.

Pamela A. Koutrakos

Pam Koutrakos is an experienced and enthusiastic educator who currently works as a middle school instructional coach. She also writes, presents, and works directly with PreK-12 teachers, coaches, and administrators as a consultant. Pam is the author of Word Study That Sticks: Best Practices K-6 (Corwin, 2018) and The Word Study That Sticks Companion: Classroom-Ready Tools for teachers and Students, K-6 (Corwin, 2019) and Mentor Texts That Multitask: A Less-Is-More Approach to Integrated Literacy Instruction, K-8 (Corwin, 2022). Angela R. Clark-Louque

Dr. Angela Clark-Louque is Professor and Department Chair of Educational Leadership and Technology at California State University, San Bernardino.  She has served in several educational capacities during her career.  This year, she was chosen as the Outstanding Faculty in Research and Scholarly Activities and in 2015 she was the Outstanding Faculty in Teaching

 

At the university level, she has served as an associate dean of academic affairs, director of graduate studies, department chair of doctoral studies, director of educational administration, and director of teacher education.  At the community college level, she served as a counselor and mathematics faculty, and at the K-12 level, she served as an administrator and mathematics/social science teacher.

 

Dr. Clark-Louque continues to teach advanced human resources, qualitative research methods, and leadership courses to aspiring and practicing school leaders. Her research activities include peer-reviewed publications, grants, and reports. She has co-authored a book entitled, “Exposing the ‘Culture of Arrogance’ in the Academy: A Blueprint for Increasing Black Faculty Satisfaction in Higher Education” (2005), and served as the co-editor and editor of the Journal of Urban Learning, Teaching, and Research (2007-2010) through the American Educational Research Association (AERA).

 

Her qualitative and quantitative research has focused on culturally proficient leadership, African Americans in educational leadership, developing and mentoring culturally proficient school leaders, and parental engagement. In 2010, she graduated from the Thomas Lakin Institute for Mentored Leadership, a national network of African American Community College CEOs. She was appointed the Committee Chair of Political Activism for the NAACP – Southwest Riverside Region and was asked to serve on the Los Angeles Committee of Honor for the Freedom’s Sisters exhibit and tour, which pays homage to a group of extraordinary African-American women who have shaped the spirit and substance of civil rights in America.

 

Dr. Louque is a native of Memphis, Tenn. and is a graduate of George Washington Carver High School, the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and Loyola Marymount University (LMU).  She earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership: Institutional Management from Pepperdine University and has credentials and certifications in teaching: mathematics and social science; and administration: preliminary and professional (Tier I and Tier II).
 


Shawn Slakk

Shawn Slakk is the CEO and Founder of ABCDSS Consulting Consortium and works with teachers, administrators, school & state agencies to offer strategies and supports for emergent bilinguals and their classmates both K-12 and adults. He is co-author and developer of new professional development sessions for all levels of educators, focusing on whole-school implementation, administrative support and coaching.  As a former Certified WIDA Trainer and Title III SIOP Coach, Shawn brings a wide understanding of a variety of strategies and how they relate to ELs, language acquisition and lesson delivery. 

He served as the Rethinking Equity and Teaching for English Language Learners (RETELL) Coordinator for the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education where he and his team were responsible for developing, implementing, training trainers and evaluating a Sheltered English Instruction endorsement course for administrators and classroom teachers.  The RETELL endorsement is required in Massachusetts to obtain or retain an educator license with more than 40,000 teachers and administrators earning this endorsement.  Throughout his career, Shawn taught ESL in grades K-University, Spanish across all grade levels and curriculums, and even once taught Japanese to K-2 students.  He has served as an elementary and middle school administrator, served at the Central Office level as a district coach and as a state level coordinator.  He started his teaching career teaching Adult ESL at Spokane Community College in Washington state.

Shawn’s curriculum and instruction doctorate from the University of Virginia will focus on supporting the needs and instruction of additional-language learners and teachers in reading and writing. He holds an MA in TESOL from Eastern Washington University, a Master of School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a bachelor’s in English and Spanish education from Whitworth University.



Ann Therese Mausbach

Ann Mausbach, co-author of Leading Student-Centered Coaching: Building Principal and Coach Partnerships (Corwin, 2018), School Leadership through the Seasons: A Guide to Staying Focused and Getting Results All Year (Routledge Eye on Education, 2016) and Align the Design: A Blueprint for School Improvement (ASCD, 2008) has been an educator for over 30 years. Ann’s belief that the greatest investment a leader can make is in people not programs has focused her work on supporting principals and teacher leaders with the tools they need to align purpose with action.  Her administrative experience includes serving as a Coordinator of Staff Development, Director of Curriculum, Director of Elementary Education and an Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. She currently works as an Associate Professor for Educational Leadership at Creighton University in Omaha, NE. 

Miriam Gamoran Sherin

Victoria L. Bill

Victoria Bill is a former elementary and middle school mathematics teacher. She is currently a Fellow and lead of the mathematics team with the Institute for Learning at the Learning Research and Development Center, University of Pittsburgh.  She has been designing and facilitating professional development with administrators, coaches and teachers in urban districts for more than 20 years. She also develops curriculum, intervention materials and performance-based assessments. Bill was the Co-Pi on a collaborative research project between researchers from the LRDC, the IFL, and the Tennessee Department of Education in which an instructional Mathematics Coaching Model was developed. Bill regularly speaks at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, National Supervisors of Mathematics, and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Research Conferences. She is co-author of the NCTM best seller Taking Action: Implementing Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices Grades k-5.  

Chen Schechter

Chen Schechter is a Professor of Leadership, Organizational Development, and Policy in Education. He believes that educators need to be encouraged to embark on the exciting journey of nurturing the remarkable wisdom of practice that characterizes their magical learning moments with our children. Prof. Schechter aims to build bridges and integrate theory with empirical evidence and practice by supporting teachers, principals, superintendents, and policymakers in their professional growth. His research areas include reform implementation, educational change, professional learning communities, organizational learning, collaborative learning from success, educational leadership, leadership development, and systems thinking for school leaders. Prof. Schechter teaches, conducts research, and serves as a professional advisor in numerous international, national, district, and school development projects, with deep commitment to developing bottom-up school leadership and transformative learning and innovation.

Prof. Schechter earned his Ph.D. in K-12 Educational Administration from The Ohio State University and currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Educational Administration (JEA), the oldest and most respected leading international journal in the field of educational leadership and management. Prof. Schechter has published his research extensively in a wide range of highly ranked journals and has authored five recent books: The Wisdom of Practice: Leading Learning from Success (2019); Leading Holistically: How Schools, Districts, and States Improve Systemically (2018); The NSSE Yearbook (National Society for the Study of Education) of Columbia University’s Teachers College on Developing Models for Teaching and Learning Self-Regulated Learning (2017); Systems-Thinking for School Leaders: Holistic Leadership for Excellence in Schools (2017); and also Let Us Lead! School Principals at the Forefront of Reforms (2015).


Serena Pariser

Serena Pariser is the best-selling author of several professional books for educators, including Real Talk About Classroom Management: 50 Best
Practices That Work and Show You Believe in Your Students (Corwin, 2018) and Real Talk About Time Management: 35 Best Practices for Educators (Corwin, 2020). She is a coauthor of Five to Thrive: Answers to Your Biggest Questions About Creating a Dynamic Classroom (Corwin, 2022) and It Starts in the Classroom: Character Education for a Better Tomorrow (Rowman & Littlefield, 2022).

 Serena taught English language arts for many years, primarily in San Diego, California, and in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has experience
working with most grades in a variety of school settings across the spectrum, from underresourced urban public schools to affluent private schools. Serena was honored as Teacher of the Year at Gompers Preparatory Academy, located in San Diego.

 She served as assistant director of field experience at the University of San Diego, where she taught graduate and undergraduate classes for
teachers in training. In addition, Serena was selected to be a national evaluator for Schools of Character. A Fulbright scholar, Serena coaches educators across the United States and around the globe, from California to Kathmandu. Her passions include progressive classroom management best practices, bringing curriculum to life, time management for teachers, and weaving character education into the curriculum.

 In her spare time, Serena travels and loves to experience the world for weeks at a time with just a backpack strapped to her back and a smile
on her face.
