  • The American Academy of Political and Social Science (AAPSS) welcomes proposals for future volumes of The Annals that promote the use of the social sciences to inform public opinion and improve public policy. The Academy seeks proposals with broad, interdisciplinary perspectives on important social issues. Typically, each volume consists of a preface/introduction and 10-12 articles for an average volume length of 279 typeset pages or approximately 250-300 double-space manuscript pages (including figures and tables).

The proposal should include the rationale for the volume, a summary of the issues it would explore, and an explanation of their importance to public policy. The proposal should also include an overview of the field of research under examination and how the proposed volume would advance that field as well as a list of proposed chapters and the names and affiliations of potential contributors. If you would be interested in serving as special editor of a volume of The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science, please send a 2-3 page proposal to Tom Kecskemethy, AAPSS, 202 S. 36th Street, Annenberg School for Communication, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA 19104-3806; E-mail:
