The Social Thought of C. Wright Mills
- A. Javier Trevino - Wheaton College
Social Thinkers Series
An accessible introduction to the social and political thought of one of the leading critics of mid-twentieth century American society
This inaugural volume of the Pine Forge Press Social Thinkers series provides a concise introduction to the work, life, and influences of C. Wright Mills. Accessible and provocative, this book closely examines the writings and ideas of C. Wright Mills that now, over half a century later, remain crucial in better understanding today's world. The book's primary focus is on two of his lifelong intellectual concerns: the interrelationship between social structure and personality and the bureaucratization of modern society and the power relations it produces. The book is ideal for use as a self-contained volume or in conjunction with sociological theory textbooks.
Excellent overview to works of Mills; although I was expecting greater focus on his work surrounding the sociological imagination. But excellent for further exploration of his work.
I beleive everyone should read Mills even if he/sh may or may not consider contemporary sociology as being of importance. I assure you it is very important.
Trevino provides a useful and thorough account of the relevance of Mills to modern sociological thought. The appreciation of C.Wright Mills' contribution to the sociological imagination is articulated very accurately by Trevino. This book is an excellent aid to the study of Sociology at both A-level and first year undergarduate level. It provides a strong argument as to why Mills has to be considered in the same esteem as his mid-west peer, Talcott Parsons. Trevno details Mills' theoretical perspective and the relevance of Weber (and to a little extent Marx) on his radical form of sociology. The Social Thought of C. Wright Mills is an excellent and informative read.

Theories which acknowledge both structure and agency are crucial in discussions of the causes of, and responses to, problematic drug use. This text will provide students with an important foundation for such discussions by offering valuable insights into C Wright Mills thoughts and theorisation of the influence of society on individual action.
A useful text to enhance student knowledge of sociological thought which will feed into a number of lectures.
