This book is easily one of the best resources and suits the needs of my students perfectly when studying 'Curriculum Frameworks'. It challenges the student to think and question but also provides sufficient background to the development of the curriculum. The evolution of the curriculum is both well referenced and coherent. This is in my opinion an essential read within my course and I particularly like the simple chapter summaries and size of font ;this is readable even when you are tired!
The breakdown of the curriculum focus 'early years' and science for example supports other aspects of curriculum study and the excellent discussion about curriculum testing focuses ones thinking and supports both a reflective and critical approach to the curriculum.
The magnificent glossary at the end of the book could be most useful in any staff library as well as a degree course in education.
Practical in its approach, language which any student or teacher might use, clearly an excellent book for any educational course but most suitable for curriculum study.

At this point last year I was considering creating a new level 5 module for education students specifically on curriculum theory and design. This has no longer happened, but it is still a very useful supplementary text for a number of existing modules.

This is a useful book which provides practical planning templates and provokes discussion for those involved in curriculum development and the assessment of teaching and learning. The case studies incorporate a range themes and curricula including early years and national curriculum.

This book provides an interesting scrutiny of the development of the curriculum in the UK. With reference to case specific studies in science and early years education Boyle & Charles give the reader helpful, practical insights into how the curriculum has evolved into what we see today. Having undertaken detailed empirical work in the field, Boyle & Charles share a wealth of knowledge of curriculum design and evaluation. This will be useful text for B.Ed, PGCE, M.Ed, and EdD.

A clear guide to curriculum development and the factors that affect it.

This book is a combination of academic research (specifically discussion on curriculum development, its history and political context) and practical guidance on planning curricular schemes. While it claims to be aimed at in-service and pre-service teachers, I would argue that its more realistic readership would be Masters level students and above, as well as those working in schools with responsibility for developing curricula. It contains a broad range of up to date references and an excellent glossary of technical educational terms at the end.
