Acutely ill adults present in a variety of settings and caring for them is a key part of the nursing associate role. This book equips you with the skills and knowledge to assess the acutely ill adult and manage their care. Each chapter follows a case study of a patient presenting with an acute illness, working step-by-step through their assessment and care whilst drawing on relevant pathophysiology, pharmacology and evidence-based practice. Written in clear language specifically for the nursing associate, this is your perfect introduction to the world of acute care.

This is a very good refererence text for a programme that I co-ordinate for newly graduated or new nurses to the ED Department. Although it is aimed for nursing associates students, I found that it gave a foundation knowledge for ED nurses, with case study examples that helped to generate discussion. It also gave a simple synopsis of the anatomy and physiology which I found supported the students' understanding of different conditions. There are also prompts for students to develop their critical thinking around conditions and nursing care, with priorities highlighted through the case studies. The case studies in this book are relevant and I referred back to them as the students worked through their programme. There is also a case study that follows on from a post op patient that deteriorates which is useful in illustrating the complexity of receiving patients in the ED. Useful text; will be using it again.
Comprehensive and holistic consideration of the A-E assessment for NA. Considers multiple variants and real world scenarios. Very helpful to students.
