Sayuri Shimizu Michigan State University, Michigan, USA

Sayuri Shimizu received her Ph.D. at Cornell in American history in 1992, studying under Walter LaFeber, one of the top scholars in U.S.-Japanese history. While working with him, she helped translate a variety of Japanese documents for LaFeber’s book, The Clash, which is noted below. She has co-authored a book on U.S.- Japanese relations for a Japanese publisher, and has a new book on U.S. – Japanese economic history, Creating People of Plenty about to be published by Kent State University Press. She is also an associate editor for The Journal of American-East Asian Relations. An increasingly well-known young scholar in the field of Asian-American history, Sayuri has recently been granted tenure at Michigan State.
